Is Ayurveda The Ultimate Choice to Treat Arthritis?

Many people are seen to be suffering from arthritis. They do everything to get rid of the pain but nothing helps. It is then that they go to check with an Ayurvedic doctor to get Ayurvedic arthritis treatment.

How Can Arthritis Be Defined In Ayurvedic Terms?

Ayurveda states that many pains are due to Vata dosha in the body. Arthritis happens when toxic substances or ama gets combined together. Ama occurs when the body is not able to do the digestion process properly. The ama or toxic substances circulate all over the body parts and get deposited in the places which are weak. When they deposit in the joints and if the body has extra data, then it leads to amavata or arthritis


As we have come to know that both ama and vata are mainly responsible for arthritis. Hence efforts should be made to first cure ama and lower down vata. The digestion process should also be improved so that there is no ama which is produced. Efforts in the treatment of arthritis should be made.

Ayurveda recommends fasting for digesting the ama. The fasting can either be for a full day or you can even fast for half day, depending upon your ability to fast, season, and also the place.

If you take two teaspoons of lemon juice along with warm water and a teaspoon of honey, then it will be very beneficial for your health.

Use of oil is recommended in Ayurveda. A body massage with sesame seeds is also considered to be very effective to lower down the vata and also in reducing the pain associated with it. The joints which are affected due to pain can be massaged for a longer period of time.

Doing light exercise is also very good. Include walking, or swimming, because they are more effective than doing anything else.

Moderate consumption of fresh Juice of Orange or sweet lime juice is also very beneficial.

Guggul is another very effective thing to be taken during arthritis pain. It can be taken in 3 gm two times a day post meals with warm water.

Diet program

Include a diet program which is easy to digest and is not heavy on the stomach. Vegetable juices and soups are considered to be very effective. One can have juices of fresh vegetable like Carrot, beetroot, Cucumber. Including green salad in the diet is also very beneficial for arthritis patients. Fruits like apple, oranges, grapes, papaya should be included in the diet. Ginger, Cumin, Coriander, Garlic, Fennel and Turmeric are also very beneficial for arthritis patients.
